Hello and welcome to 'Gayle's Class'!
This is a networking and information sharing site, developed with the needs of TAFE SA students in mind but available to anyone with an interest in youth work and community development.

![]() | Just to give you a 'heads up'... There's a whole lot of information on this site! So I've designed the
site with one page for each unit I deliver. Go to the unit you want and
follow the links to the week you want. You can print from each page. |
All of this information should also be available on the student share drive. The only advantage with uploading it to this site is that we can access it from any computer, which makes it a bit easier if you prefer to work from home.
And finally, I'll do my absolute best to upload as much information as I can to this site. But remember; the best way to learn what I teach is to attend the training with me! (We'll make it fun; I promise!) And be prepared to be a 'student' for the rest of your life.

You can contact me via my main email address. Or you can ring me (or text me) on Lastly, as you know we have a FaceBook page which enables you to stay in contact with myself and other students. Search for 'GaylesClass' or click on this link... ... talk with you soon! Gayle Hillman

.. The Importance of Education!
Before you go I wanted to say something quickly to you. I want to congratulate you for choosing to keep learning and to reassure you that everything that you learn, whether you learn formally through training or you learn informally through the internet, books and in the workplace- will enrich you and empower you.
That's why I love teaching! I absolutely believe in the power of education!
And when I say 'education', I'm talking in the purist sense. 'Schooling' is not necessarily education and some training is not necessarily education..
Education will give you a fundamental shift in the way you operate in life, the way you make sense of the world and the way you cooperate with and participate within your community.
Education not only gives you powerful insights and useful paradigms, but it SHOULD give you confidence!
Every year I say to myself, "what am I doing with my TAFE classes?" And every time I ask myself, I come back to the same conclusion and it goes like this. Yes, I give you training resources and handouts (most of the time!).. and yes, I give you paradigms and models to make sense of the work we do.. and yes, I give you 'information'..
.. but the most powerful thing I offer you is my belief in you.
Know that working with young people and the community, as satisfying and interesting as it is, is not 'rocket science'! It's mostly just common sense, empathy and perspective. You will inevitably make a difference- just by choosing to get involved.
Know too, that the best youth workers and community workers are always exploring new ideas, testing out new theories and learning new things..
And finally, please understand that the best 'training' I can give you is training that empowers you, gives you confidence to go into this field and supports you as you set out on this journey to "change the world".
And congratulations again for having the foresight and courage to learn new things. You will make a difference.
Warm wishes
NAVIGATING THIS SITE In the menu bar you'll see the units I'm currently offering. Click on the unit name and it'll take you to the main page. Scroll down and you'll see a 'unit descriptor' and a series of weekly lesson plans. Click on the link to open the page with the training resources and handouts. ** I can't upload all the training resources and handouts! Some of the handouts aren't suitable for this media. *** Which is why it's so important that you come to class! | ![]() |
